The Shadowy Hand of India’s RAW: A Series of Operations Beyond Borders

Mubashir Nadeem

The recent assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a prominent leader of the Khalistan movement, on Canadian soil has raised serious concerns about the escalating activities of India’s Research and Analysis Wing (RAW). Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s direct accusation of Indian involvement in Nijjar’s murder has not only strained diplomatic relations between the two nations but also brought to light RAW’s growing global reach and its alleged involvement in targeted killings.

India’s designation of Nijjar as a “terrorist” and his subsequent assassination in Canada have raised suspicions about RAW’s complicity in the incident. The Intercept, a US-based news outlet, has published reports suggesting that RAW has been planning assassinations targeting Sikh and Kashmiri activists residing abroad. These reports, coupled with a pattern of similar violence against Indian critics abroad, paint a disturbing picture of RAW’s tactics.

In recent months, the FBI has issued warnings to Sikh Americans about potential threats to their lives, and the family of Avtar Singh Khanda, a pro-Khalistan activist in the UK, has alleged that he was poisoned to death by Indian intelligence agents. These incidents, along with Nijjar’s assassination, underscore the global reach of RAW’s operations and the danger it poses to individuals critical of the Indian government.

The international community must take immediate action to address the growing threat posed by RAW’s activities. India’s use of state-sponsored violence to silence dissenters abroad is a violation of international law and a threat to global peace and stability. The Five Eyes intelligence alliance, comprising the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, has already provided evidence of India’s involvement in Nijjar’s murder. This evidence, coupled with the mounting reports of RAW’s global assassination campaign, should compel the international community to hold India accountable for its actions.

Pakistan, in particular, has been a victim of RAW’s destabilizing activities. Indian intelligence agencies have been accused of financing and arming terrorist groups like the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) and Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), resulting in widespread violence and instability in Pakistan. The arrest and subsequent confession of Kulbhushan Jadhav, an Indian spy working for RAW, further expose India’s involvement in terrorist activities in Pakistan.

India’s double standards and its refusal to acknowledge RAW’s role in destabilizing Pakistan and other countries have eroded its credibility as a responsible member of the international community. The Indian government must dismantle its rogue intelligence agency and cease its support for terrorist groups. Instead, India should focus on fostering peace and stability in South Asia by addressing the root causes of regional tensions.

The international community must hold India accountable for its actions and ensure that RAW’s activities are curtailed. The right to free speech and the safety of individuals critical of the Indian government must be protected. Pakistan’s sacrifices in combating terrorism and maintaining peace within its borders must be recognized. India must abandon its populist politics and focus on the development of its people. Only then can South Asia achieve lasting peace and stability.
