Saudi aviation authorities confirm two separate strikes targeting airport infrastructure and a Saudia aircraft; flight operations return to normal
RIYADH: Three Saudi nationals were killed and several others sustained injuries in two separate attacks on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Thursday, Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation confirmed on Friday.
According to an official statement issued on social media platform X, the attacks targeted different parts of the airport, causing casualties and damage to aviation infrastructure.
The aviation authority said the first attack struck airport facilities, while the second targeted an aircraft operated by Saudia, the kingdom’s national airline.
Three Fatalities and Multiple Injuries Reported
Saudi officials confirmed that all three people killed in the incidents were Saudi citizens.
Several others were injured, with the severity of their injuries ranging from minor to serious. However, the authority did not disclose the total number of injured individuals.
The attacks also caused material damage to airport facilities and the aircraft involved.
Airport Operations Resume Following Attacks
Despite the disruption caused by the two incidents, Saudi aviation authorities announced that operations at King Khalid International Airport had resumed.
The General Authority of Civil Aviation confirmed that air traffic had returned to normal following the attacks.
The incidents represent a serious security development involving one of Saudi Arabia’s major international aviation hubs.
The authority’s statement did not identify those responsible for the attacks or provide further details about the weapons used.
