Aston Villa secures a 3-0 victory over Bournemouth at Villa Park on Saturday, boosting their provisional position in the top half of the Premier League table. Goals from Douglas Luiz, Jacob Ramsey, and Emiliano Buendia brought Villa to 10th place, overtaking Chelsea with 38 points. Bournemouth, on the other hand, remains in the relegation zone after their third loss in four games, now at 19th place with 24 points.

Bournemouth boss Gary O’Neil told Match of the Day, “The performance will be viewed worse because of the result, but at 1-0 we were right in the game and had created chances. We pushed on and were punished. It was not good enough today.”

Villa took the lead in just seven minutes into the game, with Leon Bailey’s assist to an unmarked Luiz, who tapped home from close range. Bournemouth tried to get back, but Villa felt aggrieved when VAR did not award a penalty for handball on two occasions for Jack Stephens.

Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez came to Villa’s rescue when he denied Philip Billing’s free kick, flying to his right to save the Danish midfielder’s shot. There was applause from both sides when David Brooks made his comeback for the first time since October 2021, but it was Villa fans who celebrated a minute later when Ramsey scored.
