The Lahore High Court (LHC) recently ordered the government to provide an official statement outlining the specifics of gifts received by the Toshakhana, a government repository for gifts, as “confidential”.

During a hearing, the cabinet secretary submitted a response to a petition requesting information on gifts obtained from the Toshakhana since 1947, stating that the information is “confidential” and cannot be shared.

The judge, Justice Asim Hafeez, questioned the government lawyer about the classification of the documents. The Additional Attorney General Nasar Ahmed informed the court that the Toshakhana was moved from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the Cabinet Division in 1973.
