MIAMI: Golf legend Tiger Woods has withdrawn from the upcoming Players Championship, heightening expectations that his return to competitive golf will be at the Masters at Augusta National in April.
The Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) Tour unveiled the list of players set to participate in its flagship event in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, on Friday, and Woods, a two-time winner of the tournament, was not among them.
Woods, who sustained severe lower right leg injuries in a car accident in February 2021, last competed at the Genesis Invitational at Riviera in February. At Riviera, Woods gave no indication of his future schedule, stating only that he hoped to participate in all four majors and “a couple” of other events.
