As the year comes to an end, Pakistan continues to face challenges in its economy and the ongoing insurgency. As we mark Independence Day, it’s a time for us to think back on these issues. Pakistan is currently facing the critical issues of governance, civil services, federalism, law, economy and reforms. Also, Pakistan is not developing in the fields of sports, art and literature. That goes on to show that neither the state nor society is functional as per the aspirations of the people. It is also unfortunate to see that most Pakistanis are not confident in the state of Pakistan.

Pakistan is grappling with urgent issues of overpopulation, poverty, illiteracy, and financial struggles. The most pressing concern is the economy. It’s a daunting task for any nation, even one with nuclear power, to combat terrorism when financial resources are scarce. The government’s stringent measures to meet IMF requirements are exerting immense pressure on the middle- and lower-income classes.

Those in top positions of power are responsible for the economic problems. The necessary changes to the system were delayed, and the government continued to borrow money to survive until a sovereign default became a real threat.

The country’s politics are deeply divided, and the tax system, which favours the wealthy and puts more burden on the vulnerable, is exacerbating the economic challenges. This imbalance could have major consequences for the country.

Furthermore, the insurgency continues to loom large, and the government’s handling of it has come under scrutiny. The lack of cooperation from Kabul, coupled with the escalating attacks, has heightened apprehensions about the nation’s security.

As we commemorate Independence Day, it’s a time for deep introspection. It’s only natural for people to ponder whether the sacrifices of their ancestors have paved the way for a fair and just society. It’s crucial to comprehend the factors that have led to the challenges faced by Pakistanis.
