The Pakistani government has set the Nisab for Zakat for the year 1445-46 A.H at Rs 179,689, which will apply to savings bank accounts, profit and loss sharing accounts, and other similar accounts. Zakat deductions are expected to occur around March 1 or 2, 2025, depending on the moon sighting.
The Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Security issued a notification on February 26, 2025, informing the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and Zakat Collection Controlling Agencies about the fixed Nisab amount. The notification specifies that no Zakat will be deducted from accounts with a balance below Rs 179,689 on the first day of Ramazan-ul-Mubarak, 1446 A.H, which is expected to fall on March 1 or 2, 2025.
The Zakat will be deducted from savings and profit-sharing accounts with a credit balance of Rs 179,689 or more. All Zakat Collection & Controlling Agencies (ZCCAs) are instructed to ensure the deduction process is carried out accordingly. Additionally, they are required to submit a copy of the return form (CZ-08) to the Ministry after depositing the Zakat in the Central Zakat Account maintained by the SBP.
In comparison to the previous years, the Nisab for Zakat has increased, with the 2024 Nisab set at Rs 135,179, and the 2023 Nisab at Rs 103,159.
