Gunmen massacre farmers in Burkina Faso

Gunmen opened fire on vegetable farmers in Burkina Faso, resulting in the death of at least 33 people, according to the governor. The attack took place on Thursday evening at around 5:00 pm (1700 GMT) in the village of Youlou in the Mouhoun province.

The farmers, who were peacefully cultivating along the river, were targeted by heavily armed assailants on motorcycles who fired indiscriminately.

The attack has been described as cowardly and barbaric by Governor Babo Pierre Bassinga. Burkina Faso has been struggling to control an insurgency, with a state of emergency in force in eight out of thirteen regions since March, including the Boucle du Mouhoun region. The victims were buried on Friday.
