Israel Begins New Military Operation in Gaza as Death Toll Rises, Hamas Pushes U.S. for Aid Access

Israel has started a fresh military campaign in Gaza, with officials describing it as the “initial stages” of a broader operation. On Friday alone, Israeli airstrikes killed around 100 people, according to rescue teams working in the war-torn area.

The renewed offensive comes after a total blockade on Gaza was reimposed by Israel in early March, shortly before a fragile two-month ceasefire with Hamas collapsed. The blockade, which has stopped all humanitarian aid, was aimed at pressuring Hamas into concessions.

Amid worsening conditions, Hamas released Edan Alexander — the last known American hostage — earlier this week. The release reportedly followed direct talks between Hamas and the Trump administration, bypassing the Israeli government.

After Alexander’s release, Hamas official Taher al-Nunu said the group now expects the U.S. to increase pressure on Israel to open Gaza’s border crossings and allow urgent humanitarian aid to enter.

Even former President Donald Trump acknowledged the humanitarian crisis on Friday, saying, “a lot of people are starving” in Gaza.

As the violence escalates and civilian suffering deepens, international calls are growing louder for a renewed ceasefire and immediate access to aid for the people of Gaza.
