England’s white-ball coach, Matthew Mott, admitted that the world champions’ 3-0 defeat in their Twenty20 series against Bangladesh was a real wake-up call. After Bangladesh sealed the whitewash with a 16-run victory in Mirpur on Tuesday, Mott said that England must learn from their mistakes.

“Our aim was to end the tour on a high note. It’s been an exceptional tour, with a strong home team posing a significant challenge,” Mott said. “The loss stings, and we’re disappointed with how we finished. But this experience will serve as a real wake-up call and help us identify areas where we need to improve.”

England faced a batting shortage for the series after injuries forced Tom Abell and Will Jacks to withdraw, and Mott defended the decision not to bring in replacements. “We realized that we were better off investing in some of the batters we already had and testing them under pressure during these games. You learn from your mistakes,” Mott explained.

“The experience they gained here will help them reflect and prepare for high-pressure situations in the World Cup. I’m confident it was the right decision.” Meanwhile, former England captain Nasser Hussain criticized the team for focusing too much on the 50-over Cricket World Cup in India, which is scheduled for October and November.
