Pakistan defeated arch-rivals India by 43 runs in their opening match of the U19 Asia Cup on Saturday at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. This victory comes amid tensions over the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025, which Pakistan is set to host, while India has refused to visit due to ongoing political issues.
Pakistan, known for its strong bowling attack, once again showcased their strength as they restricted India to 238 runs while chasing a target of 282. Ali Raza led the charge with three wickets, while Abdul Subhan and Faham-ul-Haq took two wickets each. Naveed Ahmed Khan claimed the crucial wicket of Nikhil Kumar, who was the highest run-scorer for India with 67 runs, including six fours and three sixes.
Pakistan’s opening batsman Usman Khan also contributed with 60 runs and played a role in dismissing India’s Mohammad Aman. India was bowled out for 238 in the 48th over.
Earlier, Pakistan chose to bat first and posted a total of 281/7. Usman Khan and Shahzaib Khan put together a massive 160-run opening partnership, with Shahzaib scoring a stunning 159 off 147 balls, including five fours and 10 sixes. His 10 sixes set a new record for the most sixes in U19 ODIs.
Despite a collapse after the opening partnership, Mohammad Riaz was the only other batsman to reach double figures. India’s Samarth Nagaraj claimed three Pakistani wickets in the innings.
