Russia Urges Immediate Humanitarian Cease-Fire in Gaza-Israel Conflict

Russia has taken a firm stance, urging an immediate “humanitarian pause” in the ongoing conflict between the Gaza Strip and Israel.

This appeal comes as tensions and violence continue to escalate between the two parties.

A draft resolution, presented by Russia and shared with the Security Council, strongly denounces all acts of terrorism and violence targeting innocent civilians. While not explicitly naming Hamas, the militant group in control of Gaza, the resolution emphasizes the importance of securing the release of hostages.

The initial conflict ignited when Hamas, an organization designated as a terrorist group by the European Union and the United States, breached Israel’s heavily fortified border. This breach resulted in a tragic loss of around 1,300 lives, predominantly civilians. Israel has reported that approximately 150 hostages were taken by Hamas during this incursion.

In response to this intrusion, Israel initiated missile strikes on Gaza, an area with high population density, leading to significant casualties, including over 600 children.
