ISLAMABAD – Pakistan has strongly condemned the United States’ recent airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities and reaffirmed Iran’s sovereign right to defend itself under the UN Charter. The official statement, issued by the Foreign Office on Sunday, described the attacks as a clear violation of international law and urged all parties to return to dialogue to prevent further regional instability.
“Pakistan condemns US attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities. These actions violate the fundamental principles of international law and Iran has the legitimate right to defend itself,” the Foreign Office said.
This statement comes after US President Donald Trump announced that American forces had “completely obliterated” Iran’s major nuclear enrichment sites, including Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. In a televised speech, Trump warned that if Iran did not “make peace,” future attacks would be “far greater and a lot easier.”
Iran’s Foreign Minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, labelled the strikes “outrageous” and warned of “everlasting consequences.” He accused Washington of breaching the UN Charter, the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), and international law.
Pakistan, expressing deep concern over rising regional tensions, stressed that further escalation would have disastrous consequences for the Middle East and beyond. Islamabad urged respect for civilian lives and infrastructure, and called for an immediate end to hostilities.
“The only viable path forward is diplomacy and dialogue, in accordance with the principles of the UN Charter,” the Foreign Office emphasized.
Analysts continue to question the US decision, noting that no intelligence confirmed Iran was building a nuclear bomb. Critics like Trita Parsi warned that the strikes could push Iran toward nuclear weapons development, not prevent it. Comparing Trump’s approach to the early days of the Iraq war, Parsi cautioned against mistaking short-term military success for long-term peace.
