China’s tech giant, Baidu, has unveiled its ChatGPT competitor, the ERNIE Bot, to the general public. This move marks a significant stride in China’s tech sector’s efforts to capitalize on the global artificial intelligence boom. It comes in the wake of recent Chinese government regulations designed to enable domestic AI developers to compete with global tech giants while maintaining strict control over online information.
The ERNIE Bot represents China’s first domestic AI application that is fully accessible to the public within the country. It is not currently available for users outside China. Baidu proudly announced this development on August 31, stating, “We are thrilled to share that ERNIE Bot is now fully open to the general public starting August 31.”
