ICC announce prize money for Champions Trophy 2025

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the prize money for the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025, which will take place in Pakistan and the UAE starting February 19.

This will be the first edition of the tournament since 2017, bringing back the excitement of top-tier ODI cricket. A total of eight teams will compete, with the winners taking home $2.24 million. The runners-up will receive $1.12 million, while the two semi-finalists who don’t make it to the final will still earn $560,000 each.

The overall prize pool for the tournament has grown significantly, increasing by 53% compared to 2017, reaching $6.9 million. Every match win in the group stage will also be rewarding, with teams earning more than $34,000 per victory. Those finishing in fifth or sixth place will get $350,000 each, while the seventh and eighth-placed teams will take home $140,000. Additionally, all participating teams are guaranteed a minimum of $125,000.

This tournament is particularly special for Pakistan, as it marks the first time the country will host an ICC event since 1996. The format will see eight teams divided into two groups of four, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the semi-finals. The ICC plans to hold the Men’s Champions Trophy every four years, featuring the world’s best eight ODI teams.

Looking ahead, the first-ever Women’s Champions Trophy will take place in 2027, played in the T20 format.

ICC Chair Jay Shah highlighted the significance of the tournament, calling it a key moment for cricket. He emphasized that the Champions Trophy brings together the best ODI players and adds to the sport’s global prestige. He also noted that beyond the financial rewards, the competition fuels intense rivalries, engages fans worldwide, and contributes to the sport’s long-term growth.

The defending champions will open the tournament against New Zealand in Karachi on February 19, followed by a highly anticipated clash against India in Dubai on February 23.
