Former President Asif Ali Zardari of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has dismissed rumours of an alliance with the ruling coalition, saying that the party will contest the next elections on the “arrow” symbol. Speaking at a press conference in Vehari, Zardari made it clear that the PPP is not part of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) but is their partner in the government.

The party co-chairman also ruled out talks with Imran Khan, chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and criticised the government over governance and economic issues, including historic inflation and the aftermath of recent floods.

When asked about the police’s attempt to arrest the PTI chief, Zardari said that it is the prerogative of the interior minister and there was no need for him to be consulted.
